Hemel, Shibuya
Located just up from 109 on Dogenzaka, Hemel is a small basement Belgian bar that’s easy to miss if you’re not looking for it.
There are usually 4 or 5 beers on tap including standards such as Belle Vue Kriek and Hoegaarden, to a few rarities.
Bottled selection is excellent, and each beer comes in its own glass, of course.
The only negative about Hemel is the chef – I once saw him using a spoon to dish out some ketchup, licking the remaining ketchup off the spoon with his tongue, dipping the same spoon into mayo, then serving both ketchup and mayo to a customer. Since then I’ve refuse to eat there – shame, because the food isn’t bad.
Hemel’s website is here. Google street view doesn’t have a photo directly outside Hemel, but you can just see the entrance to the left of Sagas here.

My opinion? Until I saw the chef-licking-spoon incident, I used to go to Hemel quite frequently. I do still have the occasional drink there, but no food – and these days if I am seriously in the mood for Belgian, I go to Bis Cafe or Belgo in Shibuya instead.
